renovations at the hombu dojo in mowbray

hombu dojo

Built in 1903, the Dojo was originally used as a Hindu Temple in Cape Town before being opened as a Dojo in April 1980. Over the years, the Dojo has changed appearance and once again it has undergone a facelift with the downstairs office area being removed and the floor space for training extended to accommodate more students. This has given us the opportunity to bring all our events "home" and we no longer need to move to alternative venues when larger facilities are required due to all the students from different areas coming together. The "old" waiting area upstairs is currently being utilized as an office.

The recently acquired house adjacent to the Dojo has been renovated and is serving as the "new" waiting area for parents while students train during the week. There are changing facilities available for the students to leave their shoes and personal belongings. The outside area is housing a zen garden for relaxation and there are kitchen facilities for seminars and other events requiring catering. Teas, coffee and light refreshments are also available from The Goju Kai Coffee Shop during training times.

The upgrading of the hombu Dojo was completed at the beginning of 2008.
